What does media regulation mean.Media regulations means that the media regulation is the control or guidance of mass media by government and other bodies.They regulate the press ,radio and tv but may also include film, record music,cable, mobile phone etc.
Examples of some of the well known regulatory bodies in the UK would be Ofcom the office of communication,commonly known as Ofcom.They regulate the Tv, Radio and video-on-demand sector.Its main duty is to represent the interest of citizens and consumers by protecting the public from harmful or offensive material.
BBFCI The British Board of Film Classification is an independent, non-governmental body, which has exercised responsibilities over cinema for a hundred years, and over video and subsequently DVD since 1985. They are mainly responsible for classifying films with ratings of U, PG, 12A, 15 and 18.
It is important to have regulation in the media industry as they protect us from harmful or offensive material such as limits ads that could be considered harmful such as ads that can be harmful to people's health such as unhealthy eating, body shaming and addiction.It controls hate such as in the media or online such as hate that at take certain race,religion or genders as well as companies and individuals this is helpful as it helps avoid development in prejudice discrimination and false propaganda.
On the other hand there are a couple disadvantage of media regulation it take away freedom of speech and. promote manipulation as the government is in charge of censoring the media politicians can use it to there advantage by allowing the publishing of information or advertisements that support there political goal.
